Body modification is a big part of my art. Body modification has been performed by every known human civilization ever recorded. Since America is such a young nation / people it hasn’t really developed it’s own culture or traditions yet. It is only within the last twenty years that I’ve seen our country start to develop it’s own sense of culture. I recognize this in the growing interest in piercings and tattoos. I’ve been interested in another type of body modification called Suspension. It is hard to explain the practice of suspension. I know many who do it and I’ve seen a different reason come out of all of them. Some do it for spirital reasons not to different from the Hindu Aesthetics. I’ve seen it as a challenge to the body and mind much like running a marathon. Below is a video from New Years day 2010 where I am doing a Superman Suspension.
